Flotation clarification is a mechanical disconnection process: microscopic air bubbles (best sized 30 – 60 µm – generate a high pressure reaction, releasing neutral particles. Together they rise to the surface. Clarifiers and sedimentation aids accelerate this process.

Dissolved air flotation (DAF)  or micro-flotation is based on the following physical laws:

1. Henry’s law p = H  x  p p = partial pressure of gas phase x = mole fraction of the gas in the liquid phase H = Henry constant		2. Stoke’s law for laminar flow Ut = g (D – Dg) D2 18n Ut = rise rate of bubble D = bubble diameter Dg = density of gas phase g =  gravity constant D2 = density of liquid n = dynamic viscosity
The mixture of micro bubbles and particles rise to the surface with maximum speed.

Advantages

The gas/particle-mix quickly rises to the water surface thanks to a shallow depth of 0.6m. Thus, the bonding of micro bubbles and larger air bubbles is avoided.

Micro bubbles sized 40 – 60 µ within atmospheric pressure area – no low pressure condition has to be created.

Large surface for undisturbed floating sludge collected using rotary scoop.

No specific gas required to create micro bubbles.

100 % saturation by 4 – 6 bar air pressure in the “patent pending” HPT (High Pressure Tube).

Very short retention time of 2 – 3.5 min in the tank, thanks to already mentioned advantages.

No clogging.
